Farmers.gov Local Dashboard Continues to Improve, Add Information to Help Producers

The last time we shared news about the farmers.gov local dashboard was in April 2024. We’re excited to provide an update on how we’ve enhanced the dashboard since then.

Why We Created the Dashboard

We created the farmers.gov local dashboard to provide farmer-focused resources from USDA and other government agencies in a single place so you can easily access materials you may need as you run your operation. We also transformed some complex commodities and weather data sets into easy-to-read charts and graphs to help you quickly find and analyze information that matters to you.

Farmer and Rancher-Driven Changes

We heard your feedback! The new features and updates to the dashboard are based on the feedback we received from you. We analyzed your suggestions and prioritized improvements based on what you said would be most helpful along with the data we collected about which features were most used.

The farmers.gov User Experience team organized and analyzed all of the feedback we received in the last year so we could focus on adding information producers were most interested in.

More Commodities

The most common request we received was for more commodities information to be added to the dashboards. In response, we expanded access by adding links to additional commodity reports for every state from USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). You can also now access your state’s current and prior year Agriculture Overview from USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) from your dashboard for information about crop yield, production, acreage information, livestock inventory, and other data.

Easier Access to Program Information

Navigating USDA’s programs can be complex, including finding the right programs for your particular operation. To make it easier to get program information, we’ve added a new USDA Programs section. This section features links to state web pages for some of the most common conservation programs in each state. It also makes it easier to find links to information about loan programs and the Loan Assistance Tool, which can help you decide which loan is the best fit for your situation.

On the right is a section labeled Common Conservation Programs in Maine with links to Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), and Conservation Technical Assistance (CTA) as well as links to the Maine NRCS page and Application Ranking Dates.

Additional Locations

When we launched the dashboard in January 2023, we started with a single state: Iowa. In April 2024, we announced that the dashboard was available for all 50 states

Since then, we’ve added the U.S. territories, the District of Columbia, and other locations served by USDA programs. That means if you farm in American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Marshall Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or Washington D.C., you can now find location-based resources to help your operation.

Other Changes and Enhancements

Beyond adding new features, we've reorganized the dashboard based on feedback and analytics data. The most popular and frequently accessed items are now closer to the top of the page, making them easier to find and use. We’ve made a number of other updates, including changing settings so you won’t have to select your state and county as often and links to learn about County Committee Elections.

Looking Forward

We are continuing our efforts to expand and improve the dashboard and look forward to providing future updates.
