Six Generations on the Farm and Counting

From the kitchen table to the boardroom table, the USDA brings people together across the nation for: healthier food, natural resources and people; a stronger agricultural industry; and economic growth, jobs and innovation. Each Friday, meet those farmers, producers and landowners through our #FridaysOnTheFarm stories. Visit local farms, ranches, forests and resource areas where USDA customers and partners do right and feed everyone.

Mark Nieman, a fourth-generation farmer in Nortonville, Kansas, is keeping the family’s farming tradition alive. Mark runs the 620-acre corn, soybean, alfalfa and livestock farm in northeastern Kansas, which includes the 80 acres his great-grandfather bought back in 1905 when he emigrated from Germany.

As he puts it, he is “proud and lucky to have a family that wants to keep the Nieman legacy going.”
